The steering system
The steering system essentially consists of a servo-hydraulic (Orbitrol) steering unit that acts on the hydraulic cylinders of the rudder. For quick rudder setting, three Tenfjord control levers are installed that operate an electromagnetic hydraulic valve, one in the middle and one on each side of the wheelhouse. This allows the ship to be safely maneuvered from any side of the pilothouse. The autopilot works in the same way as the control levers via the electromagnetic valves. There are three power assisting pumps, one coupled to each engine and one coupled to a three-phase 380V motor. If the hydraulic pumps fail, emergency control can be guaranteed without servo support. The capacity of the hydraulic oil tank is approx. 40 liters. A manual emergency control is located directly on the rudder shaft. A rudder angle indicator is installed in the wheelhouse.
The crane, the windlass and the winch
The Hiab Foco crane has a
max. lifting capability of 2500 kg at an outreach of 1.1 meters
and 800 kg at a maximum outreach of 5.1 m. The crane is
rotatable with a slewing range of 270°, is foldable with a
hydraulic telescopic boom.
The Rapp Hydema anchor winch
is powered by a Danfoss hydraulic motor.
The Croft LTD capstan on the
aft deck is powered by a hydraulic Vickers vane motor via a
worm gear. There are two hydraulic pumps that are used together
for the crane, windlass and capstan. One is connected to the
starboard engine via a engageable TwinDisc power take-off and
the other is connected to a three-phase 380V motor. The
capacity of the hydraulic oil tank is approx. 100 liters and is
used together for the crane, the anchor winch and the
capstan.
Other technical
installations
The fresh water pressure
unit consists of a Löwe piston pump with a three-phase 230 V
electric motor driven by a single-phase Yaskawa electronic
frequency converter and an air pressure tank. In situations
without AC power, a 24V DC powered pump can take
over.
For fuel polishing a Baldwin
diesel fuel filter with water separator is installed. A vacuum
gauge shows the condition of the filter and thus the purity of
the fuel. The 50 l/h Danfoss feed pump is connected to a
single-phase 230 V continuous-duty electric motor. The device
can run around the clock.
